At the top of Main Street stands the old Penny Bank now the Tourist Information Centre. The Reverend Patrick Brontė, his wife Maria and their six children came to live in Haworth in 1820. Maria and Elizabeth, the eldest girls died here in childhood, not long after their mother. Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne all survived into adulthood, these four sisters went on to write some of the greatest novels of the English language |
