The old bridge, that the Bronte sisters knew well, was destroyed by a flash flood 19th May 1989, and rebuilt in 1990. It is a "clapper" type of construction, being supported by stone uprights. The nearby stone, shaped as a chair, is said to be where the sisters took it in turn to sit and write their first novels. |
