Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre

Wycoller Hall, at Wycoller near Haworth, has been recognised as 'Ferndean Manor' in Charlotte Bronte's novel 'Jane Eyre'. The Hall was built by the Hartley family in the latter part of the 16th century. In the 18th century it was owned by Squire Henry Owen Cunliffe. When he died in 1818 he left substantial debts and the hall was never lived in again, it slowly went into disrepair.
