Riddlesden Hall, Keighley

Riddlesden Hall

The Hall was bought in 1631 by James Murgatroyd, a staunch Royalist from Halifax. It was remodelled during the English Civil War at a time when Keighley was held by Parliament. The Murgatroyds later became infamous for their debauchery, and they were later imprisoned and excommunicated. It was said that the river Aire that ran below the house, changed course at the antics of the family.
